A letter from Candystore, Leslie-Lohman Block Party Mistress of Ceremonies:

The Leslie-Lohman Museum’s annual block party is upon us, Saturday, August 28th from 3-7pm! I know it’s kind of a freaky time. For the past month I’ve been driving across the country and honey, I have seen America—its middle-of-nowhere gas stations, its small town gay bars, its Del Tacos (new fave), its obscure museums (what up Prairie Museum of Art and History in Colby, KS!). Sadly, what I didn’t see, were many face masks.

As we know, in America, contradiction is the spice of life! Some of us will die on that hill, defending the Liberty of the sole individual with every person for themselves. And some of us find greater importance in collective Liberty—no one is safe or free until we ALL are. It’s under these circumstances that I need you to show your support for queer artists and communities, and come party at the Leslie-Lohman Museum.

This year’s block party will feature all new standup comedy by Carrie Hawks, performances by Alex SchmidtArchie Ham, and Paris Alexander, music by Adair and DJ Ushka, food by Guevara's, plus group coloring and a book signing with artist Chitra Ganesh and me, Candystore, your Mistress of Ceremonies!

It’s high time we really show up for one another, protect each other, and hold up our neighborhoods and communities. It’s high time we make something good in this gloomy time. Come be safe with us and celebrate this unforgettable Summer of Love by sharing your joy! There is nothing more vital to our survival, nothing more queer, than finding joy right now.
Leslie-Lohman Summer Block Party
Saturday, August 28th, 3-7pm
26 Wooster St. (between Grand and Canal)

This is a public event. Masks and social distancing are heavily encouraged at all times and required when inside the Museum. We are monitoring the city's public health guidelines and will keep you informed of any changes to event protocol. Thanks!
Candystore’s poetry and art have been published in PAPERPhile Magazine, Riot of Perfume, Precog Mag, RFD, and others. She-he has performed around New York City, most notably at MoMA PS1 (though it was in the book store) and Dixon Place (but in that awkward area between the bar and the bathroom). Candystore works as an international celebrity, fashion icon, and ingĂ©nue, playing host to the highly chaotic, sex-positive, community TV station Pubic Access.
