CAC Awards Federal CARES Funding to Local Arts Agencies
The California Arts Council body held an emergency meeting virtually on Friday, May 8, to conduct urgent business surrounding federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) funding. Council members voted unanimously to distribute the $710,400 of State Arts Agency CARES Act funding awarded by the National Endowment from the Arts to the Arts Council's 54 State-Local Partner grantees. These county arts agencies have the opportunity to opt-in for regranting to arts organizations serving socially vulnerable populations within their communities. In a separate decision, the Council also voted to establish a rapid relief grant for funding individual artists who represent socially vulnerable communities. Click here to learn more.
California Humanities CARES Relief and Recovery Grants
California Humanities relief and recovery grants aim to provide support to organizations that have experienced the cancellation of their public humanities activities due to a decrease or loss of revenue, programming opportunities, loss of paid staff, or venues as a result of COVID-19, as well as to humanities practitioners who are facing financial hardship. Funding from the State of California will provide capacity-building recovery grants to assist organizations as they consider new approaches to public humanities programming and organizational strength.
