April is Arts, Culture & Creativity Month
We sat down with Californians for the Arts Executive Director Julie Baker for some background on our state's new springtime celebration. Get the story and find out how to participate here.
Turn up the creative voices of CA's next generation
Show your support for the CAC-sponsored Senate Bill 748 to establish a state youth poet laureate, authored by Senator Henry Stern, with coauthors Senators Ben Allen and Robert Hertzberg. Here's how.
It's not too late! Support arts ed on your CA tax return
Just 10 days to go until this year's tax deadline - still time to show your support for arts education! If you haven't filed yet, help keep arts in schools by making a tax-deductible donation of $1 or more to the Keep Arts in Schools Fund, found in the Voluntary Contribution Section of your state return. If you've filed already, help us spread the word before April 15! Learn more at keepartsinschoolsfund.org.
NEW! Funding available for prison arts program development
Is your organization interested in getting involved with our Arts in Corrections program, but you aren't fully there yet? This opportunity is for you! Up to $25,000 is available in support for innovative projects, training, and mentorship opportunities intended to break down the barriers of prison arts programming and work in state correctional settings. Funding is available both to current Arts in Corrections Coordinating Organizations and organizations interested in providing arts programming through the California Arts Council's Arts in Corrections program in the future. The deadline for proposals is April 22. Learn more here.
NEA Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge for Students
The National Endowment for the Arts is supporting the next generation of American songwriters through its Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge. For the second year and in collaboration with the American Theatre Wing, the Arts Endowment is calling for applications from high school students with a passion for writing songs that could be part of a musical theater production. Musical styles can include everything from hip-hop, rock, and R&B to country and jazz. The application is simple and can be completed online. Deadline is April 30, 2019 at 9 p.m. PDT.
