Sitka Center / Artist and Ecologist Residency Program
The Sitka Center’s Residency Program has provided more than 200 visual artists, writers, and musicians the opportunity to conduct their work while deeply engaging with the inspirational coastal environment of Cascade Head. Up to five residents at a time, usually from different disciplines and stages in their careers, live and work on campus for up to 3 1/2 months free of charge. The Residency Program fosters cross-disciplinary creative and intellectual work for residents individually and collectively. Sitka’s residents, many of whom are internationally respected and prize-winning, share their work with the local community through presentations, workshops, and service projects. In addition to the Residency Program described above, Sitka also offers the Howard L. McKee Ecology Residency, to provide space and time for transformative ecological thought. The residency is offered to scientists, researchers, policy makers, and others whose work centers around environmental, conservation or ecological concerns. The Sitka Center also offers the Jordan Schnitzer Printmaking Residency (for non-printmakers), which was established in 2002 to provide artists with little or no printmaking experience the opportunity, for 2-weeks, to explore a new creative medium with guidance, instruction and technical assistance from a professional etching printer. The Sitka Center for Art and Ecology is located on the central Oregon coast just north of Lincoln City and sits within breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean, overlooking the protected Salmon River estuary. Rooted within its mission to expand the relationships between art, nature, and humanity, and sheltered beneath the branches of its namesake Sitka Spruce, the Sitka Center has today grown into an epicenter of creative and intellectual exploration.

Facilities & Services
- Housing: Private housing (individual apartment/cabin/house)There are three private living quarters on campus: the Morley House, Russ’ Treehouse and the Petterson Apartment. Each residence is a self-contained unit that includes a sleeping area, kitchen, and bathroom. The living quarters are supplied with bed linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. Each kitchen is equipped with a modest supply of kitchenware, including dishes, cooking pans, a coffeemaker, microwave, and toaster. Each residence is unique, varying in size, lighting, heat source, storage, and living space.
- Meals: No meals/food providedEach resident is expected to provide for his/her personal needs while in residence. Residents are responsible for providing their own food, studio supplies, transportation, and any additional living supplies they might need.
- Computer/internet access: Computer and internet connection provided in common area (shared), Wireless Internet, Ethernet provided in common area

- Additional studio information:The Sitka Center is located on a small 0.65 acre plot donated by the homeowners of the surrounding Cascade Head Ranch. Its facilities include the Collins Centrum, which houses a reception area, offices, and the Hale Reference Library; the Sculpture Studio, a work room for clay, wood, and stone; the Smith Studio, which houses Sitka’s Ray Trayle press and other equipment appropriate to printmaking; the Boyden Studio, the first building on campus used primarily as a painting studio; and the Edelman Studio, an exhibition and presentation space.
Residency Fees
Residents live and work on campus for up to 3 1/2 months free of charge. Transportation, food and other costs are the resident's responsibility.

Additional expectations / opportunities
Residents are asked to share about their past or current work in a public presentation at the start and end of the residency period. Community service requirement is met through outreach chosen by the resident, such as volunteering or conducting a workshop, equal to one hour per week of residency.
