About the Affiliate Program
The Affiliate Program is an immersive studio practice program awarded to approximately 20 Bay Area artists, writers, and designers annually. Affiliates receive partially-subsidized studio space, public presentation opportunities, complimentary and discounted Mess Hall meals and Public Events, and are active participants in Headlands' local, national, and international creative community.
Application Period: February 20–March 21, 2017
Program Dates: July 1, 2017–June 15, 2018

Program Highlights
- Year-long program with opportunity to re-apply for up to three consecutive years
- 24/7 access to private 100- to 400- sq.-foot studio
- Studios are subsidized, with over 50% of the cost of the program underwritten by Headlands
- One complimentary dinner in the Mess Hall each week, and discounts on any additional
- Participation in monthly peer-artist “Show and Tell” nights
- Public presentation opportunities including participation in seasonal Open Houses
Facilities Access Includes
- Communal kitchen access and gathering space
- Basic woodshop
- Artists’ library with computer, scanner and printer, and Wi-Fi
Eligible Applicants
- Live in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Work primarily in visual arts, film/video, writing, social practices, architecture or design
- Will not be enrolled in a degree-granting academic program during the program dates

About the Tournesol Award
The Tournesol Award recognizes one local painter each year and supports them in taking the first major steps toward establishing a career in the Bay Area within five years of having received an MFA. The award provides the chosen artist a $10,000 cash stipend, a private studio, and access to Headlands’ creative community. The award year culminates in a funded final project of the artist’s choice, typically in the form of an exhibition or a publication.
Application Period: March 23–May 5, 2017
Program Dates: July 1, 2017–June 30, 2018

Eligible Applicants
- Live in the San Francisco Bay Area
- Work primarily in painting
- Have graduated from an accredited MFA program in the last five years; graduation years 2012–17 are eligible (note: MFA need not be from a San Francisco Bay Area institution)
- Will not be enrolled in a degree-granting academic program during the residency period

ARTISTS PROGRAMS AT HEADLANDS
Our Artists Programs provide opportunities for research, experimentation, professional development, and peer-to-peer exchange for artists of all disciplines at critical times in their careers. Unique among programs for artists, Headlands’ dynamic programs provide meaningful resources—time, space, community, and financial support—and is home to local, national, and international Artists in Residence, regional Affiliate Artists and Graduate Fellows, and visiting artists and curators working on new projects.
