Announcing the 2016–2017 season of the SOMArts Curatorial Residency

The first exhibition in the 2016–2017 season of the SOMArts Curatorial Residency will open on Thursday, December 1. We could not be more excited to announce the three vital exhibitions that will grace SOMArts' Main Gallery with socially conscious and community-engaged performances, panel discussions and multidisciplinary exhibitions.

Now more than ever, it is crucial that artists have the support they need to incubate the creative visions that bring people together and inspire change. It is in the spirit of radical experimentation and true collaboration between artists and organizations that SOMArts founded the Curatorial Residency program 7 years ago.

Please join us in celebrating these leading-edge artists and curators! The 2016–2017 SOMArts Curatorial Residency recipients are (drum roll please):

Curated by James Fleming and Kelly Lovemonster, fourteen multidisciplinary artists present deep inquiries into the multifaceted nature of touch through painting, sculpture, photography, performance and video.

On Thursday, December 1, Touch On will open with a free public reception featuring  performances by acclaimed international performance artist boychild and the Bay Area’s emotionally visceral and visually fascinating Dia Dear. Both artists will compose performances that will culminate in their own visual ephemera. Learn more here!
