The UC Santa Barbara Library has acquired the Mission Grafica and La Raza Graphics Collection from the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA) in San Francisco’s Mission District. These two discrete collections together consist of an estimated 2,000 historical silkscreen print posters from the Chicano / Latino Visual Arts movement, plus organizational records from the MCCLA. The archives will become part of the California Ethnic and Multicultural Archives (CEMA), a division of UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections.
“Not only are we procuring the long-term preservation of this unique collection, but we are also providing access to our local and global community. A rich cultural, artistic and colorful piece of our Mission history will be available for all to reflect on and enjoy!”

ORQUESTA VICTORIA a 12-piece Tango orchestra from Buenos Aires, Argentina! West Coast Premier and New CD Release “La Media Cuadra Inmortal,” presenting the new tangos by local San Francisco composer and lyricist Débora Simcovich. This concert is honoring the memory of the great singer and composer Carlos Gardel, who spread tango songs all over the Spanish-speaking world. The iconic performer died in a plane on June 24th, 1935.
* Pre-concert talk "Jewish Life and Tango in Argentina" with Anita Epelbaum Weinstein, leader in AMIA (Argentine Jewish Communities Federation), and sociologist from Hebrew University specializing in the Argentine Jewish community.
* Enjoy dance performances by Christy Coté and Debbie Goodwin (all-female tango company, Tango Con*Fusion) and Nicholas Tapia and Stephanie Berg (2014 Argentine Tango USA Champions).

Gran Premier en la costa oeste con lanzamiento del nuevo CD "La media cuadra immortal", presentando los nuevos tangos de la compositora y letrista local Débora Simcovich, de San Francisco. Este concierto se dedica a la memoria del gran cantante y compositor Carlos Gardel, quien llevó al tango por todo el mundo hispano, a los 80 años de su fallecimiento en Colombia el 24 de Junio de 1935.
* Charla previa "Vida de los Judíos y Tango en Argentina" sobre la participacion de los judíos en el tango, a cargo de la Licenciada Anita Epelbaum Weinstein, socióloga de la Universidad Hebrea, investigadora de la comunidad judía argentina y líder de la AMIA (Federación de comunidades judías en la Argentina).
