This week at the Palo Alto Art Center

Closing Celebration for Hear This!  Join us this Sunday, April 12, as we say a fond farewell to of our exhibition, Hear This!. At 1:30 p.m., and again at 3:30 p.m., five Bay Area artists will premier new compositions inside Kate Lee Short’s The Oculus, a 12-channel, 275-speaker installation. Participating artists/composers include: Jorge Bachmann, Will Gluck, Laetitia Sonami, Jon Leidecker, and Anja Ulfelt. And if you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to take a peek at lift/HEFT: New Sculptures by Lauren DiCioccio & May Wilson in the Glass Gallery, which also closes Sunday. See you there! Remembering Susan O’Malley On Thursday afternoon, Art Center staff and friends gathered to remember and honor artist Susan O’Malley by reenacting a portion of her Community Advice project which Susan created for our grand reopening exhibition, Community Creates. We walked up and down Embarcadero Road and Newell Road, stapling Susan’s It Will Be More Beautiful Than You Could Ever Imagine poster to telephone poles and sharing memories of Susan. Other Bay Area arts organizations and friends of Susan are similarly remembering her by hanging the poster in and around their neighborhoods. Keep an eye out for them, and if you see one, we hope it will brighten your day. Workshop Offers Art for Everyone Join Judy Gittelsohn, director of Art for Well Beings, in a beautiful new studio at Mitchell Park Community Center for our Art for Everyone workshop! Projects will include landscapes, still life, abstract painting, and portraits and professional artist’s images will be used as prompts and inspiration. Open to everyone, there will also be a special emphasis on addressing people with special needs. Class begins April 16 — spaces are still available! Take Great Still Life Photos Become a master of composition, lighting and lenses with this hands-on Still Life Photography adult studio class. Subject matter, props and backdrops will be presented with different classic and modern lighting techniques. This is also a great class for painters! Class begins May 3, so sign up now!
