Surreal Art Studio: Jee Younger Lee Creates Dreamscapes

Functioning in her 160 square foot studio in Korea, artist Jee Young Lee produces the most surreal dreamscapes – utilizing her entire studio as her palette. Element art and portion theater – these believed-provoking pieces are testament to the energy of small. Constraints are explained to boost creativity and this artist proves that. In the over piece, Last Supper, there is something mesmerizing about all individuals white rats, as creepy as the believed is. All of her surreal artwork is created without having the use of digital enhancement and her studio is her stage.

Neverending Race has an Alice in Wonderland come to feel to it with oversize chess pawns (or board game pieces?) and oversize dice. We are all pawns and life is a crap shoot?

From a former student of mine Simon Pyle: "Ones and Zeros" opens Saturday

Friends,
New things abound! A new mailing list, and a new show with new (and previously-new) work.

First, I have two series of work in "Ones And Zeros," a show opening this week at di Rosa. I'll be there for the opening this Saturday. I'll also be back for a panel discussion on Thursday, September 11 with some of the other excellent artists with work in the show.
Ones and Zeros
August 2 - September 28
di Rosa
5200 Sonoma Highway, Napa, CA

Opening Reception:
Saturday, August 2
6 - 8 PM

Panel Discussion ($10):
Thursday, September 11
7 PM

Second, I've started a fancy mailing list. If you're receiving this email, I've added you to the new list because you've expressed interest in staying up to date, you were on my old mailing list, and I also probably think you're neat.
The best part of this new list is that it's very easy to unsubscribe from my occasional emails: just click the "Unsubscribe" link at the bottom. Since I can't figure out how to make the unsubscribe link big, bold, and at the top of the email, you can also reply directly to me and let me know you want off the list. No hard feelings.
Hope to see you soon,
Simon

Andrea Petrachi

Andrea Petrachi turns old school gadget into retro/futuristic android figures, bizarre characters and insects, born from the chaos of techno detritus.

All the design aspects of the original products ( old cameras, hardware, calculators, VTR, electric razors ) are absorbed into unique articulated sculptures, with an overabundance of personality that surpass their everyday materials.

Andrea describe his work as a celebration of the out-of-control desire to buy more and more things, a commentary to the planned obsolescence of products ( and  the vicious cycle of buying, breaking, and trashing ) which stand at the base of a mass production society.

Interested in forms that combines mechanical and organic parts, most of his pieces explores the boundaries between technology and anatomy, a dystopian vision inspired by diverse sources such as  underground subculture, cyberpunk, anime, sci-fi and videogames.

Rave reviews of his work were duly blogged and  featured in magazine like Wired, M/I/S/C, Surface, Daily Thelegraph, This Is Colossal, Beautiful Decay and Design You Trust.

Also knows as Himatic, Andrea Petrachi was born in 1975 and grown up in Lecce, South Italy. Actually live and works in Milan.
