ART FOR THE HOUSE is an annual fall art auction and sale, with an emphasis in affordably priced, lowbrow and urban art by Bay Area artists. This year, it will be held on Thursday, October 24th at Arc Gallery, located at 1246 Folsom Street in San Francisco's SOMA Neighborhood. The event is free to the public, with many of Hospitality House community members and supporters in attendance.
Hospitality House is currently accepting submissions of artwork to be included in the show. Participating artists can receive up to 25% commission should her/his piece(s) be sold, with the remaining percentage benefiting Hospitality House's Community Arts Program. The deadline to submit completed artist forms and all unframed pieces is Friday, September 27th. Artwork that is framed and ready to be hung must be delivered or dropped off at 290 Turk Street, San Francisco, CA by Friday, October 18th. If necessary, we are able to conduct pick-ups within city limits on a case-by-case basis.
SUBMISSION CRITERIA
  • AESTHETIC: Preference for lowbrow and urban art
  • MEDIUM: 2D work in a variety of media (we are unable to accept sculptures any other 3D work due to space restraints)
  • SIZE: 28 x 36 inches or smaller, although exceptions may be granted for outstanding, larger work
  • RETAIL PRICE: low- to mid-range; bidding starts at 33% of retail price. We strongly recommend submitting work with a retail price of $500 or less.
  • MAXIMUM: Two (2) submissions per artist
THE FINE PRINT:
  • We reserve the right to refuse to include artwork submissions for any reason.
  • Unsold work must be picked up at 290 Turk Street up to 90 days following the event. After this grace period, unclaimed work will become the property of Hospitality House and may be resold at another event or venue without prior notice.
DEADLINES:
  • Friday, September 27th: Completed forms and all unframed work due
  • Friday, October 18th: framed work/work ready for presentation due
Hospitality House's Community Art Program (CAP), San Francisco's only drop-in fine art studio and gallery serving homeless, formerly homeless, marginally-housed, and at-risk adults residing in the Tenderloin neighborhood or Sixth Street corridor. Temporarily housed at The Luggage Store Gallery on 1009 Market Street, the CAP offers free-of-charge materials, workspace, storage, instruction, and opportunities for exhibition and sales to artists of all skill levels, who might otherwise have limited socio-economic access to creative resources.
