The Scenery (27.5'' x 27'') watercolor and ink on rice paper by Susan Chan
Her paintings, calligraphy and literature are united in this piece in a work of art that is both traditional and incredibly modern in her esthetic.
Susan grew up in a culturally diverse society and has been attracted to Chinese brush painting ever since she was young. She enjoys the spontaneity of ink splashing and self expression in her pieces. Today, she dedicates most of her time to Chinese brush painting under master painter, Paul Hau. She draws her inspirations from her master, nature, and ancient chinese poetry. Her works have been exhibited in various locations such as: San Francisco Bay Area; Kunshan (2008), Shanghai (2011), Tun Huang (2011), Zhen Zhou (2011), Jiu Quen, China, and Tapei, Taiwan (2011). In year 2011, She won the grand prize award at the 17thannual “World Peace Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” in commemoration to the 100th anniversary of the XinHai revolution, celebrating General Sun Yat-sen.... The award winning piece unfortunately cannot be displayed. It is now a part of the permanent collection at National Dr Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei Taiwan.
