One of my all time favorite movies, Le Samouraï, has been the inspiration for some of my paintings.
The plot revolved around a kind of existential gangster. In a career-defining performance, Alain Delon plays a contract killer
with samurai instincts. A razor-sharp cocktail of 1940s American
gangster cinema and 1960s French pop culture—with a liberal dose of
Japanese lone-warrior mythology—maverick director Jean-Pierre Melville’s
masterpiece Le Samouraï defines cool.
Hitman Jef Costello is a perfectionist who always carefully plans his
murders and who never gets caught. One night however, after killing a
night-club owner, he's seen by witnesses. His efforts to provide himself
with an alibi fail and more and more he gets driven into a corner.
